How to heat your chicken coop

Using heat lamps to heat your chicken coop is now a thing of the past. They may be the most inexpensive method of heating but they are also the most dangerous.  They are a fire hazard and there are other ways to warm these hardy birds.

There are several types of coop heaters  available today.  Flat panel chicken coop pet heater,  infrared heater for chickens and a oil filled radiator heater. The flat panel heater looks like a flat screen television and can be fixed to a wall or free standing in the coop.  The infrared heater can be hung overhead or mounted on the sides.  The oil filled radiator looks like the radiator used in your home and is safe and economical to use.

When to put the heating on

Whatever  heater you choose, it is recommended that you only use it during sub-zero temperatures.  These heaters will not heat the entire coop though. They will just bring a little extra warmth when the chickens curl up next to them.  With adequate insulation and the hardiness of the hens,  temperatures that are too high may do more harm than good.
