What size Door for Chicken Coop

When thinking what size door for your chicken coop you need to consider you and the chicken.  You will need a door large enough to go in and out without stooping.  Your hens will want a hole in the wall because it’s more fun!

 

A door can be a piece of plywood or just a large frame filled with fencing wire with hinges and a simple catch.  It should be large enough for you to exit easily  carrying eggs in a basket.  Interacting with your chickens daily is important so make sure the door is sturdy and easy to use.

 

Chickens love using a “pop” door to enter the coop.  It is simply a hole in the wall about 14 inches tall and 14 inches wide.  The hens like to be free to wander during the day.  It is essential that the doors to your coop are predator proof so the hens are safe when locked in at night.
